Here you will find answers to questions about the watches, technology, straps, display concepts, service, ordering and shipping as well as the company.
Questions about the watches
Yes, our watches are particularly suitable for allergy sufferers. We manufacture our stainless steel watches from nickel release free 316L stainless steel.
Our titanium watches are completely free of nickel and other allergens. Of course, the strap clasps of our titanium models are also made of titanium.
In addition to our leather and saddle leather straps, we also offer vegetable tanned organic leather straps and vegan natural rubber straps.
BOTTA watches are made by hand in Germany. Our movements are Swiss Made. We have the straps of our watches manufactured by selected specialist companies in Germany and Austria in accordance with our specifications.
Technical questions
Our current watches are water resistant up to a test pressure of 5 ATM. In principle, showering and bathing are possible with it. However, as uncontrollable pressure peaks can occur in certain situations, we advise against this as a precaution. Normal everyday exposure such as rain and washing hands does not cause any danger.
We recommend having the battery changed by BOTTA, as professional tools are required to open and close the case. If we change the battery, we will also test the water resistance of your watch and replace the bottom seal if necessary. We also check the general condition.
If, contrary to expectations, a battery change should be necessary within the warranty period, we will replace it for you free of charge. Just send us your watch and enclose this form.
Please note that the warranty is void if the batteries are changed by anyone other than us.
Should a repair be necessary, we can react immediately. If you need a new strap, we will replace it at a discounted price.
We only use Swiss Made movements. In our self-winding watches, we only use ETA and Sellita movements. We deliberately use ETA and Sellita movements, as these are the most reliable and highest quality movements on the market. All movements are additionally adjusted and tested by our watchmakers for a higher accuracy.
Our quartz movements are produced by the Swiss quality manufacturer Ronda and are considered to be particularly reliable and durable.
In a quartz watch, time is measured by the vibrations of a tiny quartz crystal. It is powered by a battery. This supplies the watch with energy for about two to four years and then needs to be replaced. Automatic watches are mechanical watches whose spring is wound by the movements of the wearer. However, an automatic watch can also be wound like a mechanical hand-wound watch by means of the crown. It has no battery, but a mechanical watch should be serviced every four to five years to prevent inaccuracies and wear and tear.
A detailed explanation of the different types of watches can be found here.
PVD coating is a process in which a wafer-thin and very abrasion-resistant protective layer is applied to a surface in a vacuum. Depending on the type of coating material used, different color shades and mechanical characteristics can be achieved. The process is technically very complex and expensive but is superior in quality to other processes. We use PVD coatings for all color-coated housing parts.
Titanium is a light metal with outstanding characteristics: Despite its higher strength, it weighs only about half as much as raw steel. Due to its complex production and processing, however, it is much more expensive than stainless steel, which is why it is only used in the high-end sector. BOTTA has been using titanium for its watches since 1989: It was first used in the bestseller "Titan-1".
More information on titanium as a material can be found in our article Titanium - The Precious Lightweight Metal
Display concepts
Every BOTTA watch model has a coherent time concept with a consistently logical structure and individual statement. Our portfolio is divided into four categories with completely different display principles. The BOTTA-Quadrology arranges these display principles logically in one-hand and multi-hand watches with 12- or 24-hour display.
A detailed explanation of the BOTTA quadrology can be found here.
As the name suggests, a one-hand watch has only a one hand for time display. A precise hour hand indicates the time on a special scale. Klaus Botta already transferred this simple display principle to a wristwatch display in 1986. The UNO is regarded as the first one-hand watch of modern times.

24-hour watches display the whole day with its full 24 hours on the dial. BOTTA uses a sun-synchronous display of time for 24-hour watches. The orientation of the hand on the dial corresponds to the position of the sun in the sky.

Questions about the company
BOTTA was founded in 1986 by Klaus Botta.
Klaus Botta is a German product designer. In 1986, he founded the design and development office BOTTA design. In addition to technical products, BOTTA design has been designing and developing extraordinary wristwatches with high design and time philosophical standards from the very beginning. Watches for a conscious approach to time. The products of BOTTA design have received over 60 international design awards to date. Klaus Botta achieved fame above all through the development of the first modern one-hand watch UNO.
There is nothing more valuable than time. This is especially true in our frequently scheduled, thoroughly organized everyday life. Klaus Botta sets an antipole with his watches. A statement for serenity. Thanks to their consistent logic, BOTTA watches enable us to handle our own time with confidence. They encourage us to perceive the moment more consciously. Experience time anew - with watches from BOTTA.
BOTTA watches in their clear, unmistakable design concentrate on the essentials. They concentrate on time. Each BOTTA watch has a strong personality in its own individual way. What they all have in common is their high design and quality standards. Wristwatches from BOTTA are ambassadors of the values of their wearer.
Complicated is simple - simple is difficult: Klaus Botta's aim is to develop logical products that are intuitive to use. Watches from BOTTA deliberately dispense with the superfluous and combine superior functionality with outstanding design.
One example of this is the revolutionary UNO single-handed watch developed by Klaus Botta - the first wristwatch in modern times to use the single-handed principle. It established BOTTA's tradition of developing unique designer watches with special display principles.
